RMIT is one of Australia’s original tertiary institutions and enjoys an international reputation for excellence in professional and vocational education, applied research, and engagement with the needs of industry and the community.
Built on the premise of bringing education to the working people of Melbourne, RMIT is known for its strong connection to industry and high employment outcomes, currently ranked in the top 100 universities in the world for Graduate Employability by QS World University rankings.
At the core of RMIT’s mission is a drive to be both global in outlook and reach. In 2000, RMIT was invited by the Government of Vietnam to establish Vietnam’s only foreign owned university: RMIT Vietnam. RMIT also operates a research hub based in Barcelona, connecting researchers to Europe and students with transformative experiences in Europe.
Centred in Melbourne’s central business district, RMIT is embedded in its urban environment and is a leader in responding to the challenges and opportunities facing urban areas. A specialised Centre for Urban Research at RMIT was formed in 2012. The centre is committed to interdisciplinary research, with collaborative projects involving government, industry, not-for-profits, and other universities, to help shape public debate and policy surrounding pressing urban issues.
